【ボーナストラック】 TAKさん初めまして。英語のXDの意味を探していたら、この素敵なサイト様に辿りつきました。ずっと知りたかったたくさんの「不思議英語？」（笑）の意味が知れて、本当に嬉しいです！とても勉強になりました！ 　そこで、XDの意味もあるかな〜と思い、バックナンバーを見ましたが、私が見落としてなければ、それらしい意味は載っていなかったので、思いきってメールを送らせて頂きました。XDは、よく外国の（お絵かき）掲示板で見かけるのですが、例えば"i love this, great shading and its so cool XD" "whoaaah...very nice!! XD" "very creative...a litty scarry...but still kewl!!! XD"など。Ｘはキスの意味があるのは知ってるんですが、このＸは他の意味があるんでしょうか？Ｄの意味が全然分からないんです。学校の英語の先生に、外国人の先生に聞いてもらったら、「XOXOは知ってるけど、XDは知らない」って言われたんです。その先生が知らないだけか、もしくは若者だけがよく使う表現なのか・・・。 よければ、ＸＤの意味を教えてください！！ 　「〜〜〜:D」なども見かけます。「Whoa... check out the cleavage! :O　Nice :D」「wow!!! こんにちわ！はじめてホームページを拝見させていただきました。とてもおもしろかったです。ところで質問があるのですが、外国人の友だちからよくメールをもらうのですが、文末にoxoxとかxoxoと書いています。友だちに聞いても推測しろと言うばかりで、自分もリタイヤ寸前です。もし御存知なら教えていただけないでしょうか？ 毎回楽しく読ませて頂いております。私は36才、主婦です。（子供３人！）さて、私が以前仕事で英語の教材のカセットテ−プを作るのに関わっていたとき、そのドラマ仕立のカセットに出演していたロイヤルシェ−クスピア劇団の偉い役者さんに色紙を書いて頂きました。その時も同じマ−クが書いてあり、これは何ですかと聞いたところ、xはキスのことで、oはhugのことだよと教えてもらいました。腕を相手の背中にグルッとまわして抱きしめると、oのようになるからのようです。もし違うなら困るのですが、彼はそう言っていたと記憶しております。では次回を楽しみにしております。 ×はキス、○はハグの意味だよ、とカナダに留学していたとき聞いたことがあります。テレビ東京さんの中で「○　チュッ」というのが局のキャッチフレーズで使われているのですが×の方がふさわしいのではないだろうか、と思っていたのです。（ハグしてキスということかも？？？）○の意味、私の勘違いだったらごめんなさい！今後ともメルマガ購読させていただきます。great jobに感謝します。 【Xがキスを意味するワケ】 中世には、多くの人が読み書きが出来なかった。そこで、しばしば文章にはＸとしてサインされたんだ。このＸ（クロス）には、聖・アンデレの象徴としてみなされ、その書類に書かれた義務をまっとうするという誓いを意味していたんだ。そして、今日多くの人が宣誓を行うとき、聖書にキスをするように当時の人々は誠意を確認するためにこの×のサインにキスをしたんだ。結局×とキスは同義となり、×は手紙においてキスのシンボルとして使われるようになったんだ。
